Camera phones get resolution boost

Micron technology has built the world’s first 8 megapixel image sensor in the 1/2.5 inch format used in mainstream cameras.

With the demand for ever higher resolutions in modern camera phones manufacturers have to make a compromise between the size of the phone and the resolution of its camera.

As well as offering high resolution images with a small sized chip Micron claim that the new sensor offers much faster image capture allowing mobile phones to take much better video images.
