Dr Who phone charms hit the UK

by Patrick Altoft on March 21, 2007

Dr Who phone charmsDr Who fans have yet another cool toy to put on their shopping list today after Firebox started shipping their Dr Who phone charms.

The best thing about these charms is that they flash and spin round every time you receive a call. Each transparent dome comes direct from Gallifrey by way of Skaro and contains a Tardis or a Dalek. And if you’re a genuine Dr Who freak, it doesn’t come much more iconic than that.

Order now and you can pick one up before Dr Who returns to our screens in just over a weeks time.

Spare battery cell phone strap

by Patrick Altoft on February 26, 2007

Continuing in our search for useful and imaginative mobile phone charms we thought this spare battery seemed like a neat idea. Having run out of battery on a phone way too many times to mention this would really appeal to me even if I just carried the battery in the car ready to use in an emergency.

The product page is in Japanese so its not easy to understand but the cell phone battery charm seems to be available for a number of different models in the Japanese market but none of the popular UK/US models.

The latest comes under the useful category and offers a tiny pair of scissors so you can cut very thin thread anywhere and anytime.

Only in Japan: Politically incorrect phone charms

by Patrick Altoft on February 21, 2007

The Japanese just love to accesorise their mobile phones. As we reported yesterday one of the must have items this season is a pair of tiny shoes.

Fortunately Unfortunately the Japanese are a bit behind the times in terms of political correctness and have created some controversial charms like the smoking baby with a cowboy hat and the Little Black Sambo who was banned for being racist in the 80’s but has found a new life as a phone charm.

Phone charms have taken off in the UK with most phone shops and major fashion chains stocking a few different types.

In Japan the market is much larger with most people having at least one phone charm.

Some of the popular charms include Sappari (a Japanese beer), the ex prime minister, school uniforms, yoga figures and loads more.

After yesterdays post about phone charms it seems there is another way to accesssorise your mobile phone.

In Japan apparently all the coolest phones have a pair of shoes. Some even have cowboy boots.

The first ever useful phone charm

by Patrick Altoft on February 19, 2007

Mobile phone charms are big business with an ever growing target market of people who want to personalise their mobile phone. Most are just cute characters but this latest design is actually useful as well as looking nice and shiny.

The pill box phone charm is designed to contain any medication you wish to carry around with you and has a secure screw top and strong strap to fasten it to your phone.

Most modern phones have a metal attachment loop so you can fasten a phone charm onto them so the market has clearly been accepted by the manufacturers. It will be interesting to see if this takes off.
