Girls spending more on gadgets than shoes

by Patrick Altoft on February 20, 2007

According to a poll for GadgetCandy.com, the girls gadget blog, women are spending more money on the latest gadgets than ever before.

In the survey of 3,000 readers GadgetCandy found that over 50 percent spend over £800 per year on gadgets. This figure is apparently up 15 percent on the same survey last year, which reported only 36% spending over £800.

Another surprising statistic was that only nine percent of readers pay less than £100 per year on the latest gadgets.

What’s more, just nine per cent of those polled this year said that they pay out less than £100 on tech treats compared with 18 per cent last year.

Jessamy Hawley from GadgetCandy.com commented:

The outcome of this poll celebrates the rise of the female technology consumer; those women out there for whom the windows of The Carphone Warehouse are equally enticing as those of Topshop.

The proliferation of gadgets that are both fashionable and functional means we’re treating ourselves to the latest mobile phone, in the same way as we indulge in a new pair of Manolo Blahniks.

The manufacturers are catching on very quickly to the female market and the sheer number of phones for girls is proof that the market is ever growing.
