How the Apple iPhone will work with the Cisco iPhone

by Patrick Altoft on April 18, 2007

Ever since Cisco dropped the iPhone lawsuit in return for Apple working to make the Apple iPhone and the Cisco iPhone “inter operable” analysts have been wondering what, exactly, this means.

The lawsuit was dropped in February after the two companies agreed to share the name and work together. Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs and Cisco have been discussing how to make Apple’s iPhone compatible with Cisco’s business and consumer equipment.

According to some reports Cisco wants the iPhone to work with its corporate phone systems so that users can access the same messaging systems, visual voicemail and teleconferencing on their Cisco desk phones and the Apple iPhone.

Cisco Chief Development Officer Charlie Giancarlo, commented:

“We’re optimistic, but it’s still early,” Giancarlo, 49, said about the negotiations in a Friday interview in San Francisco. Ways in which the companies’ products can work together “are now being investigated by both technical teams.”
