London bombings dominate Nokia Citizen Journalism Awards

by Patrick Altoft on July 19, 2006

The first UK City Journalism awards have been won by a photo of the 2005 London bombings.

A picture taken of the bus bombing in Tavistock Square was the overall winner with an aerial photo of the Buncefield oil depot fire in second place.

The awards were set up by Nokia and the UK Press Gazette to promote and highlight the use of mobile phones to capture the first images of major events, often before the journalists even hear about them.

The winner of the award is choosing to remain anonymous and has donated the prize of a Nokia N90, Flickr membership and photo printer to charities.

The third prize went to a photographer who captured the survivors of a tube train bomb on 7/7.
