Xinhua, the official Chinese news agency, are reporting that sales of mobile phones in China rose by 40% to 120 million units last year.
China has more mobile users than anywhere else in the world and China Mobile, the largest network, has over 300 million customers.
Sales are expected to rise further during 2007 and predictions of 150 million handsets seem accurate.
China actually manufactures 450 million handsets every year but exports around 350 million around the world.
Nokia and Motorola control most of the market in China while local manufacturers sell around 50 million handsets.
The Chinese apparently change their phones on average every 21 months.
