Another interesting mobile patent was granted today although once again it’s doubtful that it will catch on.
Filed in 2004 by Silverbrook, a company behind lots of print related inventions, today’s patent is for a mobile phone with integrated printer which seems to run along the lines of a Polaroid camera.
The patent describes the device as a mobile phone with:
a printhead positioned on the support structure to carry out a printing operation; a receptacle for receiving an ink cartridge containing at least one ink for supply to the printhead; printing processing circuitry positioned on the support structure, the printing processing circuitry being configured to: generate dot data; supply the dot data to the printhead; and control operation of the printhead.
As you can see from the diagram below the paper fits through the centre of the phone (which looks pretty thick). The rest of the device just looks like a normal phone, albeit from a few years ago.
