Sharp were the first mobile manufacturer to use a VGA screen on a phone and they are now hoping to update the VGA screen and turn it into a fingerprint reader.
The VGA touchscreen in development at the Sharp European labs has a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and can run at 30 frames per second. A built in image sensor has the power to read and authenticate your finger prints.
Hopefully the screen will be integrated into a cell phone to add touchscreen controls and biometric security.
Whether phones really need biometric security is not clear at the moment but if a device such as the iPhone could be set up to only respond to a certain users fingerprint it would surely be a good selling point.
