More iPhone details emerging

More Apple iPhone details are emerging so I thought it would be useful to look at all the information available and sum it up in one post.

My favourite feature so far is the automatic portrait to landscape conversion. Basically the iPhone will rotate and resize the screen and anything on it depending which way up the phone is. Smart.

Another favourite feature is the visual voicemail which promises to show messages as icons on the desktop so you can click and view properties and delete or save the messages as you wish.

The phone is only going to be released on Cingular in the US at present but it will hit the UK by Christmas. Its likely you will be able to unlock the iPhone and use it with slightly reduced functionality (no visual voicemail) on other carriers. Expect to pay a LOT for unlocked iPhones initially.

There are likely to be other models of iPhone with different specifications. Think of a range as diverse as the Sony Ericsson Walkman phones.

If the iPhone is successful some people are predicting a touch screen iPod. Apple are aiming to sell 10 million iPhones in the first year. Although that may sound a lot its just 1 percent of the worldwide cell phone market. The biggest problem is likely to be catering for the huge demand. June 1st is the launch date.

The iPhone is already controversial. Within 24 hours of the announcement Cisco began a lawsuit against Apple over the iPhone trademark. This will cost millions for both companies and last years.
