A new mobile phone has been launched in Japan via a new data only network. The carrier eMobile only has the one phone and users will not be able to make calls on it.
The Sharp EM ONE has a HSDPA only service and should grow to voice data by 2008. It runs Windows Mobile 5 and features Bluetooth, Digital TV support, large 4.1 inch screen and QWERTY keyboard.
The new carrier is taking a risk with the Sharp but our first thought was whether users can download a Skype mobile application and make calls using VOIP? it will be interesting to see if the network allows this. In theory if they can allow Skype and still make money they could be very successful.
