A new anti theft device has been developed to sound an alarm when a phone is reported stolen.
The ingenious solution from mobile phone network Orange causes the stolen phone to emit a high pitched screaming sound when the phone is reported stolen. An alarm is triggered remotely by the network operator and they also have the ability to delete all the data stored on the handset.
Synchronica, the company who developed the alarm system, say the noise sounds just like a human scream. Orange are no doubt hoping that the device will reduce the trade in stolen mobiles. The system will be an additional cost so it is unlikely to take off in the mainstream. We believe that all manufacturers and networks should add systems like this to all phones in the future.
