MySpace goes mobile with Vodafone
February 7, 2007
Myspace, the largest social networking website, has formed a partnership with Vodafone to offer Vodafone customers an exclusive Myspace experience on their mobile phones.
The unique deal is the first extension of Rupert Murdochs Fox Interactive Media group into the European mobile marketplace.
The partnership will be launched initially in the UK and will allow millions of Vodafone users to use Myspace Mobile with almost full functionality to edit profiles, post to blogs and receive messages.
Vodafone intends to include Myspace Mobile on certain Vodafone handsets in the future and will offer it via the Vodafone Live! Service.
Colin Digiaro, senior VP at Myspace, commented:
This partnership brings together the world’s number one lifestyle portal and the world’s leading mobile operator. Millions of people use MySpace as their primary means of communicating with family and friends, so it’s vital we make this available on the move. Whether it’s adding new friends, sending messages, or uploading photos, the ability to access MySpace functionality from your mobile adds a new dimension to the experience.
The announcement is a good example of how Vodafone is offering more and more content to its customers. By allowing users easy access to their favourite sites Vodafone hopes that internet use will become a common activity on mobile phones.
MySpace Mobile on Vodafone provides the most compelling MySpace features and functionality, translated for a rich, easy-to-use experience on a mobile. It also enables people to keep in touch via mobile with their MySpace friends on the web. The features include:
- Upload and View Photos: Select photos stored on the mobile and upload them to a MySpace profile, as well as view photos already uploaded on any MySpace profile.
- Respond to Mail: Send messages to MySpace friends and read and reply to messages from a mobile or PC.
- Manage Your Community of Friends: View and manage friend requests and perform basic friend searches.

How is this big news? You can access MySpace and Facebook via any mobile phone from either Guys Gone Mobi at http://a1r.mobi/Commune.html or Girls Gone Mobi at http://a1r.mobi/me/Friends.html. There’s a whole community built around this already, plus hundreds of other mobile-phone friendly social networking tools, like live chat and forums. Just curious about this.
Chris the main issue is that 99% of mobile users don’t know that they can access myspace on their phone. A tie up with Vodafone and a dedicated application will alert people to the possibilities and offer an easy interface to boot.
