Nokia N77 TV phone expected next week

by Patrick Altoft on February 7, 2007

Nokia N77Nokia are apparently ready to unveil a mid priced TV mobile at next week’s 3GSM conference.

According to sources the world’s largest handset maker is keen to promote mobile TV and believes that a lack of affordable TV phones is capping the market. Most models available are expensive and tend to be high end models.

Nokia will be adding the N77 to their N Series range where they already have some similar N7x phones. It will be able to receive TV signals in DVB-H technology, currently the most popular mobile TV broadcast medium.

“Immediately when the phone prices reach the 200-300 euro price point, mobile television goes mass market,” the source said

Nokia declined to comment on the rumoured product launch.

Manufacturers and operators are keen to increase the take up of mobile TV, which is struggling here in the UK. Nokia already offers the N92 but this is a high end phone and is not targeted at the mass market.
