Maybe the title of this post is slightly sensationalist but if the comments made by Kai Oistamo, head of Nokia’s Mobile Phones unit, at recent press conference are any indication the sat nav industry might have had its day.
Oistamo stated that GPS chips “will quickly go through almost the whole of our portfolio”.
With the sat nav equipped N95 already coming free on contract in the UK its clear that we will all have access to a free sat nav handset within 12 months. Once we have sat nav phones most people won’t want to spend £200 on a stand alone device unless they offer substantial additional value.
