Ofcom, the UK telecoms watchdog, has introduced some new price controls to stop mobile networks overcharging customers when they make cross network phone calls.
The changes will see call costs slashed from £900 million to just £500 million per year with large savings being passed on to customers. The 3G network 3 will be the hardest hit as they have had call controls imposed of 45% less than they currently charge. 3 also has a much smaller customer base resulting in more cross network calls, they are also still recouping the costs of building their network.
Vodafone, O2, Orange and T Mobile are also affected and will be subject to a 5.1 pence per minute price cap.
