British mobile phone operator O2 has announced that 47500 mobile phones will stop working next month due to incompatibility with the new systems.
The Philips and Motorola models are around 8 years old but are surprisingly widely used in the UK. It is understood that the models date from the BT Cellnet era and will not work with the new O2 infrastructure.
O2 is confident that the customers who are forced to buy new phones will be pleased by the features offered on modern phones however it’s likely that users of these phones are not interested in MMS and WAP services.
Compensation is being offered by O2 to those affected. The models involved are as follows:
- Philips C12
- Philips C13
- Philips Diga
- Motorola M5388
