One of the most awaited handset the Neo FreeRunner open source cell phone designed by Openmoko has been finally shipped to several distributors. This has thereby made an attempt to move towards the mass mobile market by the mobile Linux Company.
The Openmoko announced this month that although the Neo FreeRunner cell phone from Openmoko would soon be shipped to other parts of the world the cell phone has been currently shipped to just three distribution companies located in Germany which are the Pluster and Trisoft and Golden Delicious as well as the company in France called Bearstech and Ida Systems the Indian company. However there are also possibilities to buy this cell phone from the official website of Openmoko. The suggested retail price for this handset is around £201 or $399.
The Features
The Neo FreeRunner from Openmoko is designed as a VGA which around 480 by 640 pixel touch screen. The cell phone also includes several other features like there is an internal GPS, a 400 MHz processor, Bluetooth, two 3D accelerometers, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi and SD card expandability. Similar to other cell phones the Neo FreeRunner also features a USB host function which means that you can use it to power any USB devices.
The cell phone is also available with a basic developer platform but you also have the option to download various other software’s from the developer web site of Openmoko.
