Orange launches new photography service

April 5, 2006

OrangeOrange have announced the launch of Orange Photography, a service that enables uploading and sharing of photos taken on a mobile phone via a secure online photo album.

The service is free and will allow mobile phone users to upload pictures in real time and share images across a variety of devices including mobile phones and digital cameras.

Images can be shared with your friends and family without any loss of quality as long as they have access to an internet connection.

The service provides an automatic prompt whenever a photo is taken on the users handset offering an upload to the online photo album for sharing and printing. The auto upload feature is only available on selected handsets and will be pre-installed on the Nokia N80. Compatibility with the Nokia N70, Nokia 6680, Nokia 6630 and Nokia 6230i is available as a download from Orange World.

The 200MB of storage space offered is impressive and should be more than enough for all your images. Even at medium resolution this is enough space to store 1000 photos. 200MB is far more storage space than all but the highest specification mobile phones. The facility is not only limited to mobile phone images - users can upload and edit digital images from any PC. The service is powered by PhotoBox, an award winning online photo service offering printing and storage facilities via its user friendly website.

PhotoBox appear to be handling most of the logistics of the service with Orange Photography utilising the PhotoBox dedicated print service to allow users to print their images from a computer and have them posted anywhere in the world.

Although the photo album is free there is a cost of £4 per month for uploading your photos to the album. This fee includes 30 MMS messages and there is no limit to the number of photos you can upload (apart from the 200MB storage allocation). If you wish to try the service it is free for 30 days and you can receive 10 free prints upon registering.

To make the system even easier to use Orange are allowing all customers with camera phones to send photos to their album using Photo Messaging. Simply text ALBUM to 25286.
