Samsung E900
The Samsung E900 is a sleek slider phone with a large 256k colour display as well as a digital video camera. A fast GPRS internet connection as well as an xHTML browser makes surfing the internet easy. A new ‘black UI’ menu interface separates the sub menu list from the main menu for intuitive navigation.
Our Samsung E900 Review
One of the slimmer camera phones on the market this year the Samsung E900 boats a beautifully smooth slide open design. The external keypad is touch sensitive and has a nice backlight feature to highlight the keys when they are in use.
The 262k colour screen can be viewed in the slide in or slide out configuration and is quite large at 240 x 320 pixels. Samsung have created a new interface for the menu system making navigation much more intuitive and eye catching than on previous models. Another good feature is the design of the internal keypad. The keys are have been ergonomically designed to make them easy to press making text messaging quick and error free.
Buyers can choose from a range of colours including black, silver, gold and pink. Weighing in at just 93 grams and measuring 93 x 45 x 16.5mm the Samsung is certainly a nice sized handset and is quite similar to its rival the LG Chocolate.
The E900 includes 80 Megabytes of built in memory but this can be expanded to 1GB using the hot swappable MicroSD card slot. Both Bluetooth and USb connections are included to make connecting to other phones and your PC easy. Internet browsing is done via the WAP XHTML browser which can load up a much larger variety of non mobile web pages than a standard mobile browser. Connection speeds are three times faster than GPRS thanks to the latest EDGE technology. If you need to use the E900 abroad it supports tri band GSM – check with your network first as you may need to enable roaming.
Despite being such a slim phone Samsung have still managed to include a good quality 2 mega pixel camera with built in flash. Easy access external camera buttons allow you to switch from video to still camera mode quickly and without opening the sliding case. For best results you should use the auto mode but there are also a number of settings for advanced users to ensure the photos and videos taken are as good as possible. Once you have taken the perfect photo a useful TV output connects straight to your television so you can display your images full size. The 80Mb internal memory allows 1 hours video recording so you can store a good amount of content to play back via a TV.
The MP3 player supports ACC and WMA formats as well as standard MP3’s and has a great interface to the player. Transferring music to the phone is quick thanks to the USB cable and any MP3 stored can be used as ring tones.
A useful speakerphone feature combined with built in microphone allows you to use the phone without a hands free kit – very useful when you are driving.
Although we would not recommend this phone as a fully fledged business device it does have some great business features including voice recorder and advanced email software with PDF, Excel, Word and Powerpoint document viewer.
