Samsung Unveil Worlds Thinnest Mobile Phone

by Patrick Altoft on May 9, 2006

Samsung has this week announced what is thought to be the world’s slimmest mobile phone. The Samsung SGH X820 was announced at a telecoms show in Moscow and is due in Europe later this month. A UK release date has not been set.

The phone weighs just 66 grams and is an amazing 6.9mm thick. Amazingly for a phone this size the features compare well against much larger handsets with an impressive 2 megapixel camera, 80Mb memory.MP3 player, Bluetooth and TV output.

Samsung have long been looking for a rival to the highly successful Motorola RAZR mobile phones and certainly seem to have won the size battle with this model. Part of Motorola’s success has been with the price of its phones so Samsung will need to keep the costs reasonable in order to compete when the phone finally reaches the UK later this year.
