Sharp has announced the development of an advanced LCD panel offering sharper images and better response times on small mobile devices.
The new screens will allow LCD technology to compete with the Organic LED screens that have been becoming popular.
According to Sharp the new panels have a response time three times faster than standard LCD screens at 8ms and the highest contrast ratio yet achieved on a phone of 2000:1. The viewing angle will be extra wide at 176 degrees.
A sample shipment of the panels will be available later this year and Sharp are aming for sales of £400 million by March 2009.
Manufacturing costs for the new screens will be only 30 percent higher than the cost of building a standard screen.
