Sky wins right to broadcast Premiership to mobile phones

BSkyB has succeeded in its bid for the rights to broadcast Barclays Premiership football highlights via mobile phones. In a move set to see greater take up of mobile TV Sky has beaten off tough competition for the rights to 380 Premiership games.

Sky won the 3 year package despite bidding against a formidable combined group of companies including T Mobile, Orange, 3, Vodafone, O2 and sports broadcaster TWI.

The service will offer clips of goals during the game as well as a highlights package after each match.

Sky are an increasing presence in the mobile phone world following their amazing new system to record programmes remotely by text message.
