Sony Ericsson predicts huge rise in camera phone sales

by Patrick Altoft on January 19, 2007

Sony Ericsson has been busy over the last 18 months building their brand as a camera and music phone manufacturer with great success. Fourth quarter results announced recently shows their strategy is paying off and could even see them move into the big 3 alongside Nokia and Motorola.

Sony Ericsson camera phone

According to Silvio Stagni, an executive with Sony Ericsson, seventeen percent of mobile phones sold in 2006 contained a camera. He expects this figure to rise to 85-90% of sales in 2007.

This figure represents a huge rise and will allow Sony Ericsson to steal a much larger market share from the likes of Motorola and Samsung who, although able to create perfectly good camera phones, have concentrated on marketing other aspects such as the size of the handset.

Lower prices will bring the previously high end camera phones into the mainstream and will result in higher profits for most of the major manufacturers.

Expect Silvio Stagni predictions may prove a tad conservative,we have been showcasing the Sony Ericsson camera/phone handsets during our pxidigital kiosk luanches, we are printing better than minilab quality digital prints in 4 secs per print, the reaction to these handsets has been massive.

I Truly love Sony Ericsson phones. I might not know much about the newest phones, but I was, or I like to say that I was, the first person that I know who had a Sony phone. My model was the W810. I got it back in August but I still like it. However, after seeing the new models and designs, I can’t help but want an upgrade. However, I think it’s sad that because I love in America, I’m always behind on the models and certain models don’t even make it. I really love the style of Japanese phones, but I guess here in America, they consider those phones to be bulky and big….
Yes, I know I’m ranting, but I just like to express my frustration and appreciation for Sony Ericsson phones.
