Our Sony Ericsson W700i Review
One of the most striking phones in the Walkman family the Sony Ericsson W700i is available in either a great looking smooth white or stylish titanium gold colour. The handset weighs just 99 grams and is quite slender at 100 x 46 x 20.5 mm. Sony Ericsson have squeezed 400 hours standby time from the battery which is impressive considering the range of features.
The W700i is part of the successful Sony Ericsson Walkman family and is similar to the popular W850i, W710i and W810i models.
The Walkman media player allows you to listen to your favourite tracks and videos in high quality Mega Bass enhanced stereo sound and is operated via a dedicated music button. A stereo headset makes it feel like a real Walkman and the Disc2Phone software proven in many other Sony Ericsson phones allows you to easily transfer songs from a CD or your PC library via the USB cable. A stereo MMC 60 music cable connects the phone to your home stereo system so you can play the phones music from full sized speakers. Optional Bluetooth wireless headset or wireless stereo speakers offer the ability to wirelessly stream your music around the house. The Walkman supports both Mp3 and AAC formats and includes 40 pre installed polyphonic and MP3 ring tones. New tracks and ring tones can be created using the advanced MusicDJ feature which enables you to use inbuilt sounds and beats to make your own tunes. A PlayNow feature offers music downloads from the internet with only 3 clicks from the main screen of the phone.
As is common on the other Walkman phones the music system also includes an FM radio with RDS support so you can view the station details on the screen along with news feeds and track or song details as you listen. The RDS also allows you to search for a station by name without having to know the frequency.
Internal memory is 34 Mb and the Sony Ericsson W700i includes a 256Mb Memory Stick PRO Duo which can be expanded up to 4Gb if you really want to store a lot of tracks.
As well as a music phone the W700i also includes a good quality 2 mega pixel digital camera with 4 x digital zoom and integrated flash. The photos from the camera look great on the 262k colour screen or when transferred to your PC. A VideoDj and picture editing tool help make your photos and videos a professional finish. The menu system is stunning thanks to the inclusion of Flash graphics which make it really great to use.
The W700i includes fast internet access thanks to an Access Netfront browser as well as Bluetooth and USB connectivity. If you wish to use the phone abroad it has quad band capability so you can use roaming in most countries.
