Our Sony Ericsson W950i Review

Sony Ericsson W950i A one of the Sony Ericsson Walkman phones you expect the 3G W950i to be something special and it certainly lived up to our expectations. The first thing you notice is that the handset is not quite the black colour the photos show. In fact the colour is a striking deep purple colour and looks amazing.

With a total weight of 112 grams and measurements of 106 x 54 x 15 mm the phone is very slim for a 3G device with a huge 4Gb of internal memory. Inside the box we were very impressed with the Walkman music kit which included a very high quality stereo headset along with USB cable and music management software for transferring songs from your PC music library. Much like the Sony Ericsson W850i and to an extent the Sony Ericsson W810i the W950i is a complete music phone in every way.

One of the most striking features on the phone itself is the large 240 x 320 pixel 262k colour screen which is great for browsing the internet or viewing photos. The screen is also a touch screen which makes it very easy to browse the menus. Although the keys look quite small they are flush to the surface so are very easy to use.

The media player in the W950i is a very advanced piece of software. As well as MusicDJ, PlayNow, FM radio and Mega Bass features you can download and stream tracks from the web instantly and with the album art support the phone will display the album cover on the screen as you listen.

Being a 3G phone the W950i has a good quality VGA video camera so you can carry out live face to face calls. A useful RSS feed reader allows you to keep up to date with your favourite news feeds on the large screen.

The high quality screen is also great for playing one of the 3D Java games included in the package or using MMS messages to contact your friends. A useful push email client and fast Opera 8.0 web browser makes internet and email very simple to use.

The Sony Ericsson W950i also includes organisation tools such as a calendar, file manager, tasks, alarm clock, timer, stopwatch, business card exchange, calculator, phone book, notes, contacts, & conference calls capabilities.

The Sony Ericsson W950i is quite simply the best 3G music phone on the market today.
