Sony to launch the Playstation Phone

With all the rumours about the Apple iPod phone coming to nothing could Sony be about to pull off a major coup and release a Playstation phone?

According to various rumour mills mobile phone features could be added to the PSP or, which we consider more likely, a Sony Ericsson phone could be branded with the Playstation logo in a similar manner to the Walkman phones on offer at present.

Sony’s Izumi Kawanishi started the rumours by saying;

“Could the PSP ever replace your cell phone? There is a possibility, I won’t deny it. Personally, I’m interested in it. Of course, it’s not the case that you can connect to wireless LAN everywhere, so you can’t call it a permanent connection. But cell phones are permanently connected. Cell phones get more interesting as their data transfer rate increases, and I think it would be extremely interesting to try something like that.”

If this is anything like the iPod phone fiasco expect years of rumours without any products. If its like anything else that Sony, Sony Ericsson and the Playstation team are behind expect it to hit the shelves next year.
