T Mobile to Launch Cut Price Pre-Pay Tariffs

by Patrick Altoft on April 27, 2006

T-Mobile today announced plans to cut pre pay price tariffs by up to 50 percent in order to attract new customers and to increase customer loyalty.

T-Mobile is the fourth biggest mobile phone provider UK and it plans to improve this position by launching the new prepay plans next month. Prices are understood to be considerably cheaper with savings on calls and text messages between 25 and 50 percent.

The tariffs include a rate of 12 pence a minute for any time & any network calls with another plan costing 5 pence for calls and texts to other T-Mobile users and a third plan which will allow users to send text messages for 3p each to any UK network.

Rival UK networks are currently charging between 15p and 30p per minute for calls and around 10p for texts so T Mobile looks to have a competitive pricing model to work from.

‘Pay as you go’ customers currently account for over 45 million of the UK mobile phone market and it is a sector which suffers a high subscriber turnover resulting in increased costs for the providers.

T-Mobile plans to spend a large amount of money building a strong presence in the UK market and is well placed to do this following the launch of the Flext tariff a short while ago.

T Mobile has seen a huge market gain since the introduction of Flext with hundreds of thousands of new customers signing up.
