The phone of the future is a Polygon phone

by Patrick Altoft on May 31, 2006

A relatively unknown design firm has unveiled what it hopes will be the phone of the future this week.

Design firm Alloy has created the Polygon handset to meet the needs of multimedia phone users who want to use the phone to do more than just make calls. The key benefit of this phone is that it replaces the traditional keypad with a touch screen that changes according to what the user is doing. For example when you are playing MP3’s the interface looks like and iPod, change to the web browser and a QWERTY keyboard appears.

Most current phones can fulfil most of the functions of an iPod, basic email client, internet browser and digital camera but the consequence of having lots of devices rolled into one is that the combined interface is never perfect on any of them.
