Toshiba Portege G810 – Review

by greg on July 8, 2008

Toshiba with their new Portege G810 cell phone are trying to persuade smart phone users to move on with an excellent style. Additionally it also wants then to rely on its elegantly designed touch interface that it is grafted on top of the Windows Mobile OS cell phone. It is also much similar to the other cell phone probably to the HTC touch range of cell phones. However you can find out if this Toshiba Portege G810 is worth your £360.

Features and specifications

There has been a great deal of chunky devices of Windows mobile that you must have come across but the new Toshiba Portege G810 blocks this trend. Rather it is a petite device that is a bit thicker and slightly shorter than the iPhone. This handset is designed to run of the latest version of smart phone OS from Microsoft which is the Windows Mobile 6.1 version. This means that you can get a few improvements like the full page zooming and the cleaner home screen in an internet explorer. However you will not be using much from the later as you will be using the touch interface of Toshiba itself which is above the windows mobile.

Toshiba Portege G810 is specially designed to be used by your fingers rather than the stylus and is performs most of the functions as large which are like easily pressed buttons on the 2.8 inch touchscreen of the phone. When in use the cell phone fees very much sprightly as it has included 400MHz Qualcomm MSM7200 process which is also supported by 128MB of RAM and 256MB of ROM. This means that you have a decent space to store your data. However you can also increase this up to 4GB of memory if you prefer by getting cards through the MicroSD slot.

You will also appreciate the connectivity of the cell phone. Toshiba Portege G810 is designed to support to the maximum speed of nearly 3.6Mbps and it is also HUSPA compatible which offers you a faster upload speed of nearly 2Mbps on the networks which have this feature. However the old features like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are not included in the cell phone.

Toshiba has also included a number of entertainment features. The Portege G810 is designed with stereo a headphone that lets you listen to tunes either through the onboard FM tuner or media player of the phone. There is also a high quality 3 megapixel camera that is complete with micro mirror and the LED flash. It would take pretty decent pictures which are backed up by additional VGA resolution camera located on the front. This front facing camera lets you make 3G video calls when you need.

The Toshiba Portege G810 is packed entirely with great technology. The cell phone supports HSDPA during fast downloads and has a decent camera including excellent connectivity with Bluetooth and WI-Fi. However even though Toshiba has effortlessly tried to make Windows mobile operating system to be more user friendly through their own touch sensitive interface the results actually have been turned down.
