Water powered mobile phones could soon become a reality after two Japanese companies announced they would develop a micro fuel cell.
A successful polymer electrolyte fuel cell has already been developed as a mobile phone charger by DoCoMo and they are now keen to collaborate with Aquafairy who recently created a thin film power unit to produce hydrogen from water.
The technology is more than twice as powerful and much smaller than a similar methanol cell produced last year.
With the advent of video and 3G mobile phones are becoming increasingly power hungry and most of the major manufacturers are working on new ways to help keep phones powered up for as long as possible.
